Today is the No Smoking Day in the UK.
It doesn’t matter where you live. Today is a day dedicated specifically to you, who want to quit smoking.
Although here, in the Smoking Cessation Formula, we strive to make every day a “no smoking day”…
…there seems to be something about the second Wednesday of every March. After all, 1 out of 10 smokers quit today.
So this is for YOU.
You know, there are days like this that I usually receive emails from people telling me things like:
“It’s my third attempt to quit smoking. And I am starting to lose hope.”
“I am tired of trying and failing. It’s hard. Will I make it this time?”
“How do I know I’m on the right track?”
If you have any of these thoughts, know that you are not alone.
Some smokers feel frustrated, guilty and angry for not quitting. Others are afraid of failing, so they don’t even try.
But everyone, deep inside, wants 1 thing: to be done with smoking once and for all.
So here are 3 signs that you will quit smoking this No Smoking Day!
1. You have a PLAN to stop smoking.
Having a plan consists of two things.
- Setting a quit date.
- Using a quit smoking method that makes quitting easy.
Knowing when and how you will quit, will give you 1 great advantage: And that’s the advantage of clarity.
…you are sitting inside a car, you are holding the wheel, and you are trying to drive for the first time without a method or a guide.
You are frustrated, you are pulling your hair and for a moment, you think that maybe you are not meant to learn how to drive.
What happens if someone gives you a plan? A strategy? Directions?
You have a moment of clarity.
You know you can do it – and you just have to practice.
The same applies to everything.
For example, You will maximize your income if you have the right financial plan.
Or your business will thrive with the right strategy.
Or even your day will be more productive if you plan it ahead!
That’s why you can’t expect to break a 30-year-old smoking habit without a plan and a method.
But what’s the best method? That takes me to the next point.
2. You are following the 4 quit smoking stages.
A vague goal like ‘quitting smoking’ can be overwhelming. That’s why you have to break it down into more approachable steps.
So what you have to do, is go through the 4 quit smoking stages. Going through these 4 stages will help you find quitting not only easy but also enjoyable!
And these stages are:
Choose to quit. Before starting your quitting journey, you have to make a firm decision to stop smoking and never look back.
Cultivate your potential so you can change how you feel about smoking and eliminate the need to smoke when you are stressed or bored.
Change your smoking pattern so you can change how you feel WHILE smoking.
Condition your smoke-free life so you will never relapse when a friend offers you a cigarette. (It happens more than you think.)
These are the 4 quit smoking stages of the CBQ method. The ONLY method we use in the Smoking Cessation Formula because it has 94% success rate. 85% of smokers quit permanently on their first attempt and 9% on their second or third attempt. Learn more about the CBQ method.
3. You have a strong EMOTIONAL reason to quit.
Let me explain.
You must find this reason, this one thing that will change the quality of your life, as you see it as you value it, once you quit smoking. You have to have your big “WHY”.
Having a reason for quitting smoking is what will help you quit – no matter what difficulties, temptations or setbacks you face.
When you see someone smoking in front of you, it is your BIG REASON that will allow you to say no without suffering!
If you don’t have a big reason when you THINK about quitting…you can’t take the decision to start.
If you don’t have this reason WHILE quitting you won’t stay focused on your goal.
The problem is that most people don’t know how WHY they want to stop smoking.
Let me explain what I mean by telling you a story.
I remember the first time a client of mine, Angela came to visit me.
She was suffering from COPD because of her lifetime of smoking. As you may know, COPD, this lung condition, creates serious breathing problems among its other symptoms.
Angela’s daily life was affected because she couldn’t do anything without coughing and wheezing. She couldn’t really enjoy her time with her family and what was bothering her the most was that she didn’t feel comfortable at her work.
And although quitting smoking was her only chance of getting her health back, I could see that she wasn’t happy about quitting.
She was doing it because she had to.
Because the doctors said so.
And because her family was pushing her.
Not because she was excited to improve her health.
So when I talked to her about why she wanted to stop smoking, she specifically told me:
“I am sick, do I need a bigger reason than that?”
“If I am in that condition and I still can’t stop smoking, I am doomed, I will never do it.”
But that’s the common mistake smokers do: They try to find logical reasons about why they SHOULDN’T SMOKE.
But smoking is not a logical habit. It is an emotional one.
That’s why if you want a powerful reason to quit, you have to look for it in your emotions. Put the logic aside.
Yes, Angela knew she had to stop smoking.
But how many times do people get cancer because of smoking and they keep smoking after they survive it?
Emotions are not convinced by facts.
You see, the moment you decide to quit smoking because you “have to”, you feel decisive and sure of your success.
But as the days go by and the cravings start to get intense, you start losing your drive. And you are filled with doubts and second thoughts about quitting.
Unless you have a strong emotional reason to quit.
So I am going to give you the same exercise I gave Angela. This is what motivated her to stop smoking.
What was it?
What made her quit?
As weird as it may sound, It wasn’t her lung condition. It was her desire to have a glowing skin again.
Yes, She didn’t like her wrinkles! Who would have thought that would be the thing that would make her quit smoking?
But it doesn’t have to make sense to others. It doesn’t even have to make sense. But It must have emotional significance to you.
And you will find this something if you ask: “WHY”.
You must always ask why.
Why is going to give you purpose. And purpose is stronger than reasoning.
Knowing WHY you want to change, why you want to stop smoking has to stay at the top of your mind all the time, every moment – not just in the beginning of your journey.
Knowing why is power. And if you know why, the how will be easy.
But that why has to matter to YOU. It must have an emotional reason behind it.
So now I will give you an easy 2-step exercise that will help you find out your big WHY and stop smoking successfully and with a feeling of absolute freedom.
Let’s do it.
Exercise: Your Reasons to Stop Smoking
Take a piece of paper and write 10 reasons why you must stop smoking. But you must own it, you must feel it.
Write how your life will be better. Why you need your life to be better. And how quitting smoking will change your life for the best.
Really just write it down.
- Maybe you want to break free from this addiction, and live a long, happy life with your loved ones.
- Maybe you’re starting to realize that your health and your energy are deteriorating. And you want to do something about it.
- Perhaps, you are struggling with your breathing. OR your heart is not as strong as it used to be.
- Maybe you are just sick of the smell. And sick of having to draw money out of your pocket every day to pay the tobacco companies.
- Or maybe, you just wanna live. And travel the world with your loved ones without having to worry about your cravings.
If you go to, let’s say to number 6 and you can’t find anything else, squeeze your brain and you will find the rest- everything is here.
Take your list, let’s name it “The Golden List” and as I speak number your 10 reasons in order of importance according to what talks more to your heart, what feels right. 1 for “This will make me happy” 10 for “I wish I had this, but I can live without it”.
I can just tell you right now that this big WHY is on that list.
The thing you rated as #1 is your big WHY. That thing, that will make quitting smoking worth your while.
And you already know this! It’s just time to act upon it.
So now, what’s important is to start your quit smoking journey the RIGHT WAY.
